The co-funding of 3 international youth exchanges (Erasmus+ Youth in Action/German-French Youth Office) to be held in 2020  respectively in all 3 cities and a short study visit (Erasmus+ Youth in Action) is secured.

Two young people of the youth initiative take the responsibility of coordination and marketing. The youth initiative meets regulary and cope with the challenge of the cost calculation for investments at the square and planning meetings with the local council and architect from the municipality.

Through organising open air activities at the square (coffee talks-climate change, book exchange…) the idea of redesigning the square and a participation in future event planning could be spread by the youth initiative.

Taachoun, the training center for metal construction in Menzel-Bourguiba, is ready to produce the benches, the mobile stage and the basketball hoop for the square. Young people again support the  idea of redesigning the square. The production of the benches starts, then everything stops due to the corona crisis.

After the lock-down a new project planning is necessary. The partner organisations agreed on shifting the youth exchange and the  short study visit to 2021. We will bridge the period with local and virtual meetings until the youth exchanges.

In a time of pandemic, project activities could continue in a restricted form in Menzel Bourguiba. Via zoom or with appropriate rules of hygiene the core team of the youth group meets regularly.

What they achieved:

• The metal frames of the benches as part of the infrastructure at the square are ready. Young active people have finished them with weatherproofed paint.

• Youth representatives agreed with the municipality of Menzel Bourguiba about the renovation of the floor at the square by experts.

Due to Covid 19, we missed an open youth participation process regarding the transformation of the square. An online participation process on Instagram will replace it. The Instagram story will provide a project overview, followed by a poll. Young people living in Menzel Bourguiba can share their visions of sports, cultural and environmental activities/events at the square.
